Core

Core:

  1. the central or most important part of something
  2. the muscles of the torso, which provide support for the spine and pelvis

Sometimes we associate strength with rigidity and hardness. This is often the case with core (which is often reduced to abdominals) strengthening exercises. But our core is the very center of our being and home of our intuition (have you ever had a “gut feeling” about something?). What a disservice we are doing ourselves if we become overly rigid and hard here. Can we strengthen our center of our physical body, our core, while holding space, remaining open, supple, and receptive?

“The hardness of a diamond is part of its usefulness, but its true value is in the light that shines through it.” — BKS Iyengar, Light on Life
