Softening & Shifting Perspective: Evolution Toward Inclusion & Union

I’ve been inspired by recent political goings-on to reflect upon and contemplate the ideas of rightness and wrongness, inclusion and exclusion.

Growing up, there was great value placed on being right. I was rewarded for being right. I got really good at it. If you had asked me if I’d rather be right or happy, I would have said, “Both!” not understanding that the two contradict one another. That there is an inherent separateness created instead of union. Yoga means “union” — with oneself, others, and universal energy. Union through inclusion, not separation or exclusion. In order to remember this union, we must release the ego and our need to be right, and abandon the compulsion to figure it out or come up with an answer right away.

“When we cling to one point of view, we limit our ability to see what is before us. Enlightenment, in fact, is nothing more and nothing less than a radical change of perspective.” — Judith Hanson Lasater, Living Your Yoga

May we grow and evolve toward greater inclusion and union with ourselves, so that we may evolve toward greater inclusion and union collectively.
