Freedom

It seems to be human nature to seek security an certainty and to fear change. So, we work hard to establish this illusion of security and certainty in our mind and in the life we build for ourself.

We settle into routines…and then they begin to feel restrictive, limiting, confining. We get restless. And then we say, “I’m stuck! I want freedom!” We blame our life. We blame our mind. We begin frantically looking for a means of experiencing freedom — an escape, an alternative.

“You do not need to seek freedom in a different land, for it exists with your own body, heart, mind, and soul.” — BKS Iyengar, Light on Life

It’s not about forsaking our present lifestyle, whatever it may be, but rather exploring how we experience this freedom within the structure/container of ourself, our life. We can begin to do so in this very moment by closing our eyes and placing our awareness on the ease and freedom of the natural breath.

We are all free to connect to our Truth. It is right here. All we have to do is recruit the courage to acknowledge it. Can it feel terrifying? For sure. But it is so healing to embrace your freedom, your limitlessness, infinity.

Let go of your physical body, your to-do lists, your thoughts, your worries and fears, your ideas about yourself, the roles you play. Let it all go for now, and allow that which remains a little space to breathe and rise.

“Freeing yourself was one thing, claiming ownership of that freed self was another.” — Toni Morison, Beloved

May we use our courage to experience our freedom.
