Have you ever found yourself feeling bored or stuck? Maybe you’re discontent or even agitated with your work, family, schedule, daily routine? And yet you (by you, of course I mean I), WE resist doing the thing which would make us un-bored and get us un-stuck. That thing is opening to the present moment.
The present moment is anything but boring and the opposite of stuck; the present moment is rich and full, fluid and ever-changing. Yet we resist opening to the present moment not matter how fulfilling it may be because it is uncertain, and that’s scary. There is infinite possibility in the present moment, which is both exciting and terrifying.
In order to be fully present, to step right smack dab in the center of the present moment, we have to release expectation and relinquish control. That’s hard to do because while expectation and control may keep us bored and stuck, at least they keep us safe and secure… or so we convince ourselves. But, of course, such certainty is nothing but an illusion.
“You do not need to seek freedom in a different land, for it exists with your own body, heart, mind, and soul.” — BKS Iyengar
Lately I’ve been finding movement, physicality effective at bringing me into the present moment. I invite you to give it a try. Move your body. Move energy through your body. Play and be curious. Physically challenge yourself, and in so doing “screw up” and “succeed.” But mostly, release expectation and relinquish control in order to be here now.
May we move with the intention of experiencing clarity, harmony, and unity of the body, mind, breath, and soul. May we remember that the way to effect change, inspire growth, participate in evolution, and open to Love is from within.
